For the Mixed Media module I knew I wanted to do something related to exhibiting and exhibitions because this is an area of interest to me, which has began developing since my second year as an undergraduate.
At first, my idea was to make a machete of an exhibition. That would have been my artefact, accompanied by an essay explaining the entire process of putting together an exhibition, from beginning to completion.
After attending lectures and tutorials I realized that I have to slightly change my idea in order to make it fit the brief of the assignment. The suggestion given by the tutor was to make a publication where I would include the interviews with various curators, images from the show they are talking about and last but not least, my approach towards curating an exhibition.
I aim to interview 5 curators, 1 based in Canterbury, 1 based in Margate, 2 London based and hopefully, 1 from Brighton. If that does not work, I'll interview 3 curators located in London. Through the interviews I wish to identify and document the curatorial process, which is likely to be different from one person to another.
At least 2 of the interviews will be recorded and the rest of them shall be obtained via email. Depending on each person's availability and my ability to go to Brighton/London on certain dates, I shall attempt to have conversation with each person involved in my project. Canterbury and Margate do not raise any concerns when it comes to this matter due to reduced distance.
